Fashion Choices for the Home

If you’re looking to update a room in your home and not sure which route to take, why not use a favorite fashion trend as the inspiration for the room? This can be a great way to express your personal style.  Below are three great trends straight from the runways that can make for the perfect room.

BRIGHT COLORS

Splashes of color are popping up everywhere and have been since the first snow fall melted. We have been seeing a lot of juicy oranges to stunning  pinks and striking blues in stores.  An affordable way to add a splash of color to your home is by using throw pillows and table top accessories  to start. For those of you that are more daring and are ready to take the plunge, try brightly colored furniture.  A bright sofa and loveseat set or a brightly colored accent chair in the corner of the room are excellent ideas to brighten your room with your favorite color.  Another great way to add color to your room is by purchasing a brightly colored accent rug.  With a brightly colored rug, it’s important to keep the big pieces of furniture neutral and add the pop of color again with home accessories and throw pillows or bedding.  This is similar to a colorblocking outfit straight from the runway. For example,  a bright skinny jean, white top and brightly colored handbag is how to color block an outfit. Use the same rules to color block your home.  The color blocking trend is easy, fun and completely acceptable both in the home and within your wardrobe.

WHITE

If you dare to have white furniture, there’s nothing more elegant than a crisp white loveseat & sofa set that brightens the room.  If you are worried about having white furniture in a room where family pets and your loving kids may not appreciate it as much as you do, skip the white furniture and add white accessories to the room. A cluster of three or four white vases on a table is a bold statement. They can be placed on a dining table, kitchen island or coffee table. Decorative pillows, pillow shams, accent rugs, candles, blankets and window treatments can be purchased in white as well. A beautiful pillow or bolster can also be added to a chair to spread the look past the bed if your whites are in your bedroom. Most rooms can always use a spot to put a drink on or seat an extra person on when entertaining. A white stool or even a bench can make great accents as well.

NAUTICAL

A fun way to add a contemporary flair to the room is by adding stripes to the walls or on an accent wall.  Throwing the nautical look in with stripes is easy.  Make your wall stripes thick in the colors of navy blue and white and then place accent pieces within the room in  brass metals, yellow and/or green fabrics.  Pops of color matched with crisp whites and natural details like rope and canvas are making sea lovers smile this summer. Nautical looks are common yet timeless and classic,  making this ideas an excellent inspiration for the home. A wood floor and wood frames and shelving within the room can mimic the feel of a boat deck. As far as accessories go,  rope accents on lamps and lighting fixtures add texture as long as they are neutral in color. Not interested in stripes on the walls? Add a  blue striped pillow to the bed or the sofa. Coral pieces for the room are also a big hit not to mention shell chandeliers and bowls filled with starfish & seashells. Any natural element from the beach or sea can turn your room into your favorite vacation destination.
