Holiday Toy Drive; Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation

As a member of the Detroit Mom Bloggers Network I will be hosting a toy drive this Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m with fellow mom blogger Christina Strickland of Detroit Mommies. We will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the SNOWPILE program supported by the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation at Panera Bread in Rochester Hills located at 2921 South Rochester Rd.

SNOWPILE is a patient and family care model of present giving for children and teens who are hospitalized during the Holidays. Toys and activities are proven to lessen the stress and anxieties the children, teens and their families feel during their stay in the hospital.

I would like to cordially invite you to join us for coffee and Holiday mingling as we help children in need during this fun event. Please remember, monetary value of the toys are not important. Any toy donation will help bring a smile to a child’s face. My main goal is to ease a child’s pain and hopefully see lots of smiles this season. Won’t you join is for coffee, conversation and smiles of our own? I would love to see you there!

FGI Detroit hosts Spring/Summer 2012 Trend Event

If you have an all around love for fashion and would like to learn what trends are coming this Spring, mark your calendars for Fashion Group International‘s Detroit chapter Trend Event. The Spring/Summer 2012 Trend Event will showcase Spring trends and fashionable favorites for the Spring/Summer 2012 season.

Students, FGI members and non-members are welcome to attend the event. Guests will enjoy wine & hors d’oeuvres, a fashion show and a trend review for Spring/Summer 2012. Guests will also be able to enjoy shopping from the latest collections from Milda Bublys Designer Studio and Fotoula Lambros Design at 20% off.

The event will take place, November 29, 2011, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Milda Bublys Designer Studio located at 559 Orchard Lake Rd, Pontiac, Michigan.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, a fun filled event called BRAvo has been planned for Wednesday, October 12, 2011. BRAvo will feature a live auction of celebrity autographed bras and a displayof winning bras from a decorating challenge held this past Summer. The BRAvo decorating challenge was created to allow individuals to show their creativity in support of breast cancer survivors and community education behind the deadly disease.

Bravo Night will be hosted by WNIC and Fox 2 Detroit’s Jay Towers and will take place on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, BRAtini bar and cocktails. The event will celebrate 35 celebrity-autographed bras during both the live and silent auctions. Celebrities who autographed bras for this special event include; Kid Rock, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban and more.

Proceeds from BRAvo will benefit the Mount Clemen’s Regional Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center to provide assistance and care for women in the community. A portion of the proceeds will assist in providing free screening mammograms. The Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center and the Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center are hosting this event in hopes that BRAvo will help the increase of breast cancer awareness.

Goodwill Industries Partners with HGTV “Cash & Cari” Star to Support Detroit Area Jobs

HGTV star Cari Cucksey of the hit TV show “Cash & Cari” is teaming up with Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit to support Detroit area jobs. Cucksey will be donating several pieces of her repurposed furniture and home accessories to be sold during the Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit Fall Fashion Show which will take place Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Goodwill flagship upscale retail store in Canton.

Models ages 6-26 will be wearing outfits consisting of items donated to the upscale resale store. Proceeds from the event will support local employment, training and job placement programs within Metro Detroit.

Cucksey and a Goodwill representative will be emceeing the fashion show while music from acclaimed local DJ Raheim D’Andre entertains the event guests. Model hair services provided back stage will be by Kris Endreszl of Novi’s Sweet and Sassy Salon. After the show, Cuskell will be available to meet and greet guests and sign autographs.

For those interested in shopping after the show, the store will have a “Fashion Show Special” on October 1st with all red-tagged items on sale for 99 cents.

Proceeds from Goodwill’s Fall Fashion Show support Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit employment education, training and placement programs that help unemployed Metro Detroiters earn jobs. Within the last two years, Goodwill Industries has helped nearly 2,400 individuals find jobs and events such as this one will hopefully help more people who are in need of work.

Detroit Fashion Week

Detroit Fashion Week kicked off this past Sunday with a designer reception and preview party at Emagine theater in Royal Oak. Guests mingled and enjoyed fashions from several of the featured designers as well as Uneek Collection who is also being featured at the main runway event this Saturday, at the Detroit Public Library.

DFW was started six years ago by internationally known photographer, Brian Heath, and has started it’s seventh year with more supporters than ever before. Tonight at the Royal Oak Farmers Market located at 316 E 11 Mile Rd, Royal Oak, Detroit Fashion Week and the Young Survivors Coalition will host a charity auction and a PINK design showcase by participating Detroit Fashion Week designers. Survivors will wear pink on the runway. The event will be hosted by CW50′s Lori Pinson and will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Friday, September 23, 2011, DFW will host a student design showcase featuring eight College and University fashion programs and a party by design with the Michigan Aids Coalition. This event will take place at Willys Overland Lofts starting at 8:00 p.m at 441 W. Canfield in Detroit. Be sure to attend and support the designers and the fantastic fashion programs featured in the show.

Finally, Saturday, September 24, 2011, Detroit Fashion Week will end with it’s usual finale. A runway show of eight designers will be featured at the Detroit Public Library starting promptly at 8:00 p.m. The show will feature Tayion Collection, Uneek Collection, Odie King, Lyudviga Schneyders, Toni McClenden, Kate Lorenz, and Asylum Fashion House. After the designer showcase, guest are invited to enjoy the after party at KaCent 630 located at 630 Woodward Ave, downtown Detroit.

Fashion’s Night Out – Birmingham

Downtown Birmingham will participate in this year’s Fashion’s Night Out with 12 supporting stores eager to celebrate the nation wide event. Participating stores will be open from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011 for a very stylish and fashionable global night out sponsored by Hour Detroit. Select locations will offer hors d’oeuvres, special discounts, drinks, coupons, games and free samples.

New York Fashion Week S/S 2012 schedule

It’s time to prepare for New York Fashion Week S/S 2012. We now have to get our power bars and energy drinks packed and our schedules in order minute by minute. Will your invites overlap each other? Will you make it to each show? Only time will tell. Rest assured, everyone will be looking fashionably superb in all the chaos which means you better have your wardrobe ready too if you plan on attending.

The schedule is jammed packed with the world’s top designers ready to show you what Spring/Summer of 2012 is going to be all about. Take note there will be quite a few names debuting at the Lincoln Center this year including J Crew, Honor, Katya Leonovich, Pink Tartan and VLOV. Fash Bash 2011

If you think Detroit is behind in the style scene, you might want to think again. Thanks to the Founders Junior Council (one of the largest and most influential auxiliary groups at the Detroit Institute of Arts) and Neiman Marcus, Fash Bash 2011 was a representation of class, luxury and absolute style.

Metro Detroiters gathered together for a fashionable evening at the Detroit Institute of Arts to celebrate the 35th year of Fash Bash on August 18,2011. An impressive 80 ft runway was placed right through the middle of the DIA’s opulent Great Hall as guests enjoyed a display of Fall fashions provided by Neiman Marcus. Models were elegant sporting gowns, fur trimmed capes and coats, and leather ensembles. Make up was provided by Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and hair was done by a Glamorous Mom favorite Kristina Marra of Figo Salon.

Fash Bash Summer Nights City Lights

Celebrating the 25th year of Fash Bash, stylish Detroiters will be coming together on August 18, 2011 to celebrate fashion and the Detroit Institute of Arts. Fash Bash, created by the Founders Junior Council, will be held at the DIA in support of their educational program, grants and scholarships. Attendees for the evening will enjoy a fashion show on an 80 ft runway provided by Neiman Marcus in Great Hall, a sip and stroll on the steps of the divine institute and a paparazzi after glow on the sidewalk along Woodward.

Couture Crowd - Tickets are $500.00 for two which includes 7:00 p.m. arrival.
