This year, you will start seeing skinny jeans, slacks and capris in pretty floral patterns like you’ve never seen before. Whether you’re a black and white kind of girl or one that loves to indulge in color, floral pattern jeans are the “it” jeans this year that you probably should consider. The smart way to wear them is with a solid color on top. A pretty look would be floral jeans worn with a flowing chiffon peplum blouse or a cozy off the shoulder sweater. Either way you’ll be looking pretty fab.  The color on top doesn’t exactly have to be an exact match to those in the pant, just make sure they make sense.  This is a trend you can certainly have fun with.

As we mentioned in our recent post,  Top 12 must haves of 2012 , the peplum is a 2012 trendy must have that is geared towards keeping you feminine and modern.  Peplums can be found in all sorts of styles. If your new to the peplum world choose a blouse that flares at the waist instead of ruffles. Choosing a blouse or a fitted jacket with a less obvious peplum in the beginning of your peplum journey will allow you to ease into the trend if you’re a bit shy.  If you’re not one who is shy, go all out girl! The peplum is in and so is looking feminine and unstoppable.

For the next twelve months, peplums will mostly be seen on skirts of all lengths giving a little extra va va voom to our womanly curves.  For the hair, all types of sparkly hair accessories will be acceptable to jazz up the do in a youthful yet ornamental way. You won’t even have to comb it to get the perfect 2012 look.  Just finger style your hair into a messy low pony and wear your favorite blinged out  headband or  decorated hair pin.

As far as make up, frosted glosses and shimmery lipsticks will be out and bright matte looks will be all in throughout the year.  Expect to see darker colors early on and brighter hues closer to Spring.

The over-sized blue clutch may be an Ipad clutch but it can also be worn during a day out on the town .   The size here is the key component (no more common designer wristlets please unless you’re eight and are going shopping with your friends).  The metallic shoes and over-sized earrings are my favorites. It seems I cannot get enough of these two these days and Iam looking forward to collecting more for the new year.  The great thing about metallic shoes is they go with absolutely everything and will never look dated.  The earrings? Well, the bigger the better for any occasion is the rule!

Capes will be hot this year all the way into Spring. They will especially look fabulous with opera length leather gloves for those chilly days (not pictured but a true necessity in my eyes). Next on the list is floral jeans. I know you’re not used to wearing this much of a floral pattern at once but I encourage you to try it and let go of any inhibitions against floral patterns.  If worn right, they can look cute on just about anyone.

Color blocking will be very common in 2012.  Plan on wearing the lighter color on top and the darker on the bottom for a slimming effect.  Great color pairs to consider are pink & red, teal & navy blue, black & white and orange & hot pink.

I’ve been asked by a few local publications to give my advice on what to wear for the big night ahead. I’ve also enjoyed helping my close friends figure out exactly what type of dress to wear and how to wear hair their hair and make up for their big night. I can honestly say, I’m not sure what is more fun….dressing my friends or dressing myself. Oh. Wait. The answer is dressing my friends! By far!

Below, I have put together my favorite to share with all of you.  I don’t expect you to duplicate each item but hopefully this set will give you a feel of what pieces look great together. I’m a big fan of old Hollywood glamour.  Mixing old glamour and new glamour with a couple great accessories is a fun way to welcome 2012.  From the smokey eye to the Tiffany blue clutch each piece below was carefully chosen to help you look glamorous as you bring in the new year. The only two things missing is a glass of champagne and a cheek kiss by your loved one, but that is yet to come.

Many styles are acceptable and what ever makes you feel comfortable is important.  Popular styles are the two button front blazers, blazers with pattern lining, blazers with leather inserts and blazers with embellishments.  As you can see there are several stylish options out there to choose from and which one you wear is up to you but we recommend avoiding a baggy,  ill-fitting style. A well-tailored boyfriend blazer is an investment piece and will be more versatile. Tailored blazers look best when worn with leggings, pencil skirts, jeans, dresses, slacks and shorts.

It’s true,  you are beautiful.  I challenge you to look in the mirror and tell yourself so at least three times. Then the fourth time, believe it!  We all know these sparkly things do not make you who you are, but we also know we deserve things that sparkle, especially during the Holidays.  As a busy mom that usually wears puke on her shoulder and flats on the go, plan on turning heads with this year’s Holiday outfit.  If your planning on attending a Holiday party or planning your attire for New Year’s Eve,  I recommend you step away from the typical LBD and wear the vibrant colors of red and pink,  preferably in beads or sequence.  Go ahead step out of the box.  No really…slowly….step out…..reach for the pink and red sequence…..buy the right size….and give it a chance. Try it on, look in the mirror and tell yourself how great you look.  You deserve to wear a color that gets attention.  You deserve to feel beautiful.  You deserve to look beautiful and you deserve to have a night all to yourself.

Don’t be afraid to wear red lipstick and red heels with a hot pink dress.  If the dress is too much how about wear red slacks and a pink sparkly tank?  There are many ways to incorporate  these two colors to fit your figure and match your personal style.  Once you choose your outfit,  incorporate Holiday make up trends by wearing a smokey eye and red or pink shimmer gloss.  It’s easy to tie in this look from head to toe.  But, is it easy to tell yourself you’re beautiful? Sure it is!

Fall is here and Winter is fast approaching, but that doesn’t mean we have to default to blacks and browns for the next six months.  I too am guilty of getting into my comfortable dark clothing zone.  If you’ve seen me out and about then you know I have a habit of wearing black on black on black with black shoes.  Yes, I’m comfortable in black.   But,  it’s time to venture out of that comfort zone and I hope you can do it with me.  If we start now, maybe by Spring we can look as good as Sarah Jessica Parker did (wearing pink and red) on the Jay Leno Show.

Let’s start with color choices.  The runways displayed a ton of  bright “look at me colors”.  Colors like bright green, yellow, orange,  pink and blue were the main vibrant hues in most of the shows during NYFW. Pairing unexpected colors together is acceptable so picking your favorites is a good start.  It’s important to like what your wearing right?.  Color pairs that work are orange & pink, red & pink, and  bright green & blue.

To get color blocking right, make sure clothing  is in solid colors, the colors are bold and bright and leave the prints alone. Currently,  Southwest patterns are hot. They’re great with fun, beaded and wood accessories and can easily be worn with a solid color blazer or sweater.  If blazers and sweaters aren’t your thing, wear a patterned dress with a solid color shoe or a patterned blouse with a solid colored pant.  Make sure there is a solid somewhere on your body to balance out the pattern.  This will allow the patterned item to stand out and stand alone the right way.

If you like to be bold and aren’t afraid of a little attention, it’s also okay to wear prints on prints.  Be sure though that your color schemes match and stick to classic silhouettes for the louder prints. It’s important for color choices to make sense, the patterns necessarily, don’t have to.

Other than Southwestern prints, there are many other patterns that are quite popular this Fall.  Geometric patterns can easily be worn with florals.  Florals can also be paired with polka dots and large plaids.

When easing into prints  for you shy gals out there, ease in with subtle patterns or hints of patterns.  For instance, try a patterned scarf on a solid color block ensemble. A printed belt or a graphic handbag are also good choices.  Hints of patterns are okay too, head-to-toe patterns are not.   I know it sounds confusing but the key is to have fun with your prints and patterns and remember, if the colors make sense then wearing two or even three prints together is a-okay. Any and all prints are acceptable and if you follow the simple rules mentioned above, you’re golden.
