My Mom has given me the gift of unconditional love and that has provided me with a strong foundation to be a good mom to my kids.  It sounds so simple when I write it, but it has been so powerful.  She’s the person I can go to about anything at anytime, and I know she’ll be there for me, always.  My Mom has also taught me about the importance of integrity and honesty, not only by words, but by actions.  She is the kind of person who does the right thing even if it’s not easy.  She has always put my needs and the needs of my brother ahead of her own.  I realize the sacrifices she made as a mother more now than ever.  She didn’t have a lot of help when we were growing up because my dad worked a lot of hours and often a second shift.  She did a lot on her own, and her spirit of independence is a huge inspiration to me. She is now retired and getting back in touch with herself.  I wanted to do something special for her because she is an incredible person and has been so giving of herself. She has taught me what true, unconditional love is, and for that I am grateful. Our family might not be perfect, but I know that no matter what, I am loved. As I get older, I realize what a gift that is because not everyone has that foundation.

Dear Shannon,
I would like to nominate my sister Tricia Uhl for the November Mom of the Month from Metro Detroit.  Tricia is an amazing mom to my 3 year old niece Ava and she is also expecting a new addition to their family in January so I am sure that she would love a little pampering!  When I watch Tricia with Ava it brings tears to my eyes because she is a mom who absolutely loves being a mom.  Three years ago Tricia put her career on hold to take on her new position as “Mom” full time.  At first it took some adjusting but I can say she has successfully accomplished more in her role as “Mom” then she every could have ever accomplished professionally.  Like most deserving Mom’s Tricia always puts her daughter and family first.  She is very involved in Ava’s preschool and is always volunteering her time and resources whenever needed.  Tricia and her husband Chris love living in Detroit.  They are very involved in many programs and weekend activities around the city.  They are proud to live in Detroit and really encompass all the city has to offer as they share the great sense of Detroit pride with Ava.  

In conclusion, I think Tricia is a great nomination for Mom of  the Month because quite simply,  she understands what it takes to be a great mom and she does all that and more.  I am so proud of the Mom she is and I would love to see her get a little “me” time and pampering before her newest addition arrives.

Stacy is a devoted wife and proud mother of Liam, age 3, Laurel age 5, Lindsay, age 7 and Logan, age 9.  Stacy’s four beautiful children are all under the age of nine and she still has time to donate her talents and warm heart to her friends, her kids’ school,  the community she lives in and beyond.  Four fellow glamorous Moms from her children’s school submitted her name into our contest in hopes that she would win and it’s no wonder why this great Mom should  be honored!

Stacy is a catechist for Sunday school at her local church, a Brownie troop leader, a strong volunteer at her kid’s school and also hosts a neighborhood fundraiser during the Holidays each year for the Walter Reid Hospital in Maryland.  The Walter Reid Hospital is known for their excellent rehabilitation program for Army soldier amputees.  Each year around Christmas time, Stacy leads a thoughtful group to give back to the soldiers for the Holidays by filling backpacks with toiletries, sports watches, snacks, hats and T-shirts donated by several local businesses. 

In the past she has also donated her time to help a friend support Grace Centers of Hope by soliciting local businesses for donations for the center’s auctions and has volunteered for the Crossroads Crisis Center.  Stacy’s friends admit she can take on too much at times but that’s what makes her happy.  Taking on a heavy load to make sure others are happy seems to be the norm for Stacy and for that we want to celebrate her heart and dedication by honoring her for the month of October! 

Thank you Stacy for being you.  There are many of us Moms who just try to hold it together and you have exceeded the expectations of those around you by being exceptionally kind and devoted.  Thank you for all you do on behalf of your friends who nominated you and us here at glamorousmoms.com! I am writing you to nominate my wife, Susie, for the Mom of the Month
Contest.  Susie is a wonderful mother and wife.  We have three beautiful
children.  Annalise is 17 months old,  Alex is 4 years old, and Liam
is 9 years old.  Susie devotes all of her time to taking care of us and
puts our needs ahead of her own.    We made a conscious choice when we
decided to have children that it was important for her to be at home
with them.  This decision has been wonderful in terms of our family
dynamic, but difficult financially.  Susie has had to forgo getting
her hair cut / colored on a regular basis, rarely ever is able to get
mani / pedis, is not able to go shopping for new clothes, and is not
able to go out to do “girlie/glamorous” stuff in general.  She
recently discovered her second passion in the form of cake design.  In
her “spare” time long after the children have gone to bed she creates
beautiful cake art for our family and friends.  Through this art form
she is able to express her inner diva and I can see how happy she is
when she is creating.  I would like her to be able to experience being
pampered and feel as glamorous on the outside as she is on the inside.

We have had more than one of Joanne’s inspired friends write in on her behalf.  She has the ability make those around her grateful for knowing her and are deeply touched by her commitment to her family and friends.  The ability to spread love and hope to the families around her is what impresses her friends the most.

 Back in 2007, Joanne and her husband Mark lost their 5 month old bay girl Charlotte,  to a rare brain disease called Alexander’s Disease. Through the struggles and sadness, Joanne was able to persevere and find a way to keep Charlotte’s memory alive by helping sick children at the same time.  Joanne and her family began donating books to local hospitals in honor of baby Charlotte.  Very quickly a well known local charity called Charlotte’s Wings was created. “She is very genuine and a great friend to those who know her. The fact that they were able to turn devastation into this, is truly an inspiration for us all,” says her friend Leslie H.

My mom is a single mother of two. She works full-time for Federal Express delivering packages, which is becoming physically grueling as she becomes older. She also cares full-time for my mentally challenged 30 year-old brother. My brother requires 24 hour supervision. She is able to receive assistance from the state, but due to my brother’s behavioral issues, she is rarely able to use these services to take a break.

As a single mom, she struggles financially to make ends meet each month, leaving very little “extra” for herself. She is always buying gifts, baking or making food for others who need a little pick me up or are going through a rough patch. She prioritizes herself last, always taking care of those she feels needs more than she does. Recently, my aunt, who is my mom’s best friend, was diagnosed with skin cancer that has moved into the lymph nodes. My mom once again is thinking of what she can do to help Aunt Peggy, what she can surprise her with to cheer her up and what dinners she can make for her to make it easier on their family.

My mom’s life has been challenging, but she continues to move forward, always thinking of others and she deserves a day of pampering for herself!!!!

Lisa’s name was submitted by a close friend who would like to remain anonymous. A friend who thinks she is amazing and strong and who wants to thank her for being so inspiring!  Lisa is a mother of three who has inspired those around her, including other Moms, by her friendliness, kindness and ability to push forward during a particular trying time. In 2009  her son Joey was diagnosed with a brain tumor. At the time he was diagnosed, Joey was just 9 years old. Joey was swimming at a family member’s home when he became ill. When Lisa got the call, she drove to him right away only to find him unresponsive. Once the EMS arrived at the scene, Joey had stopped breathing. We are told, Joey is a strong little boy who was very lucky and the doctors were successful in removing the tumor with surgery. Every six months for the rest of his life, Joey will have to have MRI’s to make sure the tumor does not come back. Today, Joey is a happy, healthy young boy with a proud Mom who was strong enough to stay positive and push through this obstacle with a great amount of strength and love.

Lisa not only is a proud Mom of three who helps run her family business, she also is the author of her book titled, “A Whistle in the Dark,” and has recently started her own charity called, The Healing Nest. The Healing Nest provides ongoing, free massages to women suffering from cancer and for Moms of really sick children. Having first hand experience of taking care of a seriously sick child, Lisa knows the stress and heartache these women endure and has found a way to give back and help them. The massages are comforting and relaxing, giving those who are suffering a chance to enjoy a few moments of relaxation.
