Sip on champagne, indulge in fine chocolate, and shop at Tory Burch at Somerset Collection and support The Pink Fund this Thursday, November 18, 2010. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a private shopping experience and help support individuals currently suffering from breast cancer at the same time. The private shopping experience will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. and will end at 8:00 p.m.

Ten percent of the evening’s sales will be donated to The Pink Fund and shoppers will also receive 10% off their bill with each purchase as well.

Sarah Jane Fall 2010 launch party

Local accessories designer, Sarah Jane Regan will host her 2010 Fall collection launch party this Sunday, September 12, 2010. The party will take place at Rosie O’Grady’s in Ferndale starting at 6:00 p.m. The evening will be filled with fun including a fashion pre-show, a pink carpet (not to be confused with red) for the VIP guests and a special guest appearence by the newly crowned Miss Michigan USA 2011.

The models of the fashion pre-show will be dolled up by Black Salon of Royal Oak and Sarah Jane Regan will be there also to meet and greet her fashionable guests. Sarah Jane Regan is a designer that is known for her eclectic style and the ability to deliver a wow factor with each design. She is eager to bring out your “inner Sarah Jane” with each creation and has been hitting Detroit’s fashion world by storm.

Welcome home Miss USA

Miss USA, Rima Fakih celebrated her homecoming with family, friends and fans alike yesterday in Metro Detroit. Her day began early in the morning with a news interview followed by an intimate breakfast with her charity of choice The Pink Fund, receiving the key to the city, more interviews and a Homecoming Gala during the evening. With a busy day and a tight schedule you’d think this young lady would get tired, but not Rima!

We had the opportunity of meeting her on two occasions yesterday and her tender heart and gentle smile was heartfelt and genuine no matter how busy she was. During her speech at her Homecoming Breakfast in honor of The Pink Fund, Rima spoke like one of the girls drawing each and every supporter in with each word she spoke. We found her natural ability to reach out to the crowd made it easy for her to connect with those who support her selected charity.

Rima is an ambassador for The Pink Fund, which is a non-profit organization that gives financial help to both men and women who suffer from breast cancer. During her Homecoming Breakfast, she spoke to The Pink Fund supporters and told them why she choose the local, non-profit organization as her charity of choice. She explained that she was looking for a small local charity that wasn’t well known that needed the help. ”I’m going to use my crown for something good”, said Rima. During her speech she continued to say, “I’m Miss Michigan, I’m not Rima Fakih anymore, I want to milk it”. “And now I’m Miss USA and I keep my promises”. When the crowd heard Rima’s words, several crowd members had tears in their eyes as they so proudly cheered and applauded her statement. It’s obvious Rima is eager to use her crown for unselfish purposes. She is geared and motivated to help others by using her title.

It’s no question The Pink Fund will benefit from this wonderful opportunity and it’s also no question Metro Detroiters are excited and proud to stand behind their newly crowned Miss USA.

Local charity The Pink Fund recently introduced their new SurThrivor 2010 sunglasses for fashionistas that love to help others. Back in April, The Pink Fund launched the new sunglass line at several local area optical stores for the Share the Vision fundraising event.

Clear Vision Optical designed the SurThrivor 2010 frames specifically for The Pink Fund, which include a glossy black plastic frame, and the Pink Fund logo on the arm.

Miss Michigan wins USA title!

Congratulations to our very own Miss Michigan, Rima Fakih! Rima is now Miss USA after being crowned last night at the Miss USA 2010 Pageant held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Rima, who was raised in Dearborn, is the first contestant from Michigan to win since 1993.

Not only is Rima’s title great for Michigan but also great for one of our local charities called The Pink Fund. Rima is a Pink Fund Ambassador and supports the Pink Fund’s mission, which is to help provide short term financial aid to men and women currently undergoing treatment or recovering from breast cancer.

Rima has been handed a diamond tiara, a modeling portfolio, a one year scholarship to the New York Film Academy, a 1 year contract as Miss USA and a handsome apartment in New York among many other glamorous prizes!

January Mom of the Month!

Congratulations to breast cancer survivor, Molly MacDonald! She is our January Mom of the Month!

Molly has won a gift certificate from Voula Isakov of Andrew Marke Salon, for a FREE haircut, highlight and color! Andrew Marke Salon is located at 6838 North Rochester Rd, Rochester Hills.

We have received three submission letters on Molly’s behalf and can’t wait to share her story with you! When we called to congratulate her, she wanted to share her story with you too. In Molly’s words, here is her story in a just a few lines.

For fifteen years of my adult life, I led what most people would assume a glamorous life. Mother of five beautiful children, all attending private schools, living in a big beautiful Bloomfield Hills home.

Until one day when I drove up my driveway and saw something tacked to our front door. It was a foreclosure notice indicating our home was to be auctioned in thirty days. I later learned that all our financial assets had been liquidated in the pursuit of a business, deal and we were in fact broke and soon to be homeless.

My couture wardrobe, furs, jewelry, antiques and art were all of little value now that I needed quick cash. I sold a Steinway Concert Grand and rented a smaller home, where I could transition my children, ages 4-13, into public school, and begin to reinvent our lives.

For ten years I struggled to pay off debt and avoided bankruptcy. We lived on cash. There were times when a choice had to be made between buying a gallon of milk or a gallon of gas. We could either get where we needed to go hungry, or not go at all!

My children’s father,once a wildly successful lawyer, whose biggest decision of the day was what luxury car to drive, did not see much of our children for almost three years until our acrimonious divorce was final; and he drove into our driveway to pick them up for a visit in a Rent-A-Wreck!

His child support payments stopped abruptly and without notice in November of 2000. And by February, my vehicle, which he had leased, was repossessed in the wee hours of the morning.

As I navigated my children through the emotional ravages of divorce and lifestyle changes which at times put us on the brink of homelessness and hopelessness, I depended on my faith, family and friends to get us through.

In the spring of 2005, just when I was about to transition into a full-time job which would allow us to pay all our bills on time, and maybe save a little, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and side-lined for six months. The financial devastation to our family was worse than the disease. Once again, our home went into foreclosure, but thanks to my mother we were rescued from living on the streets.

My life had lost all its glamour. Yet in spite of my circumstances I found that by openly sharing our challenges, and through the creation of The Pink Fund, I became more compelling, attracting some of the most interesting people and opportunities into my life.

For years I have danced with the “What If’s” of fear. And I can tell you that at times it has been paralyzing, making it almost impossible to move my feet. I was afraid my children and I would be homeless and hungry (we found ourselves beneficiaries of the local food bank for a time) fearful I might die from breast cancer, fearful I would not be able to get work, and ultimately fear that my life would not have made a difference.

In my closets are remnants of those once glamorous years; a few Chanel handbags, some Hermes scarves, a couple of couture dresses (including the one in this photo) and fur coats (I thought if I was going to be homeless, I would at least be warm, so I kept them.) reminders of the glamorous woman and mother I once was, not knowing that because of my circumstances and my choices to overcome them by investing my life in the lives of others, I would become far more glamorous than I could ever imagine.

Glamour, as it is basically defined is often illusory, and temporary as I found out. But real Glamour, as I discovered, comes from the light within. A light which burns brighter when we refuse to let the challenges of our lives snuff it out.

The question then, is how can any of us not realize that each of us has the potential to be more Glamorous than we ever could imagine!

To Glamorous Moms everywhere, I raise my glass to you in a toast to a New Year of Real Glamour!

Turning burdens into blessings luncheon

The Pink Fund is holding their first annual Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser on October 18, 2009. An afternoon of food, fun, fashion and prizes are planned for the 18th from noon to 3:00 pm. Michigan jewelry designer, Marlaina Stone will show her beautiful jewelry and guest speakers Dr. Daniel Sherbert and Dr. Jen Green will also contribute. Exclusive women’s apparel by Doncaster and high fashion eye wear from Optik and Optimeyes will be apart the show.

All proceeds raised from this event will directly benefit Michigan breast cancer patients who are currently in treatment and are having a difficult time meeting their monthly bills.

Fellow Glamorous Mom and Founder of The Pink Fund, Molly MacDonald, is making a difference in the most Glamorous way! A breast cancer survivor herself, Molly’s mission through The Pink Fund, is to provide short-term financial aid to both men and women receiving treatment or recovering from breast cancer.

In 2005, Molly, mother of five, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After 13 years of clear mammograms and no family history of cancer, this devastating diagnosis was a complete surprise. Molly claims her case was mild and only had to endure 2 surgeries and six weeks of radiation. Some would think that is enough for anyone to handle, especially being a wife and mother and handling the responsibilities of every day life itself. Instead of Molly focusing on herself, she has used her own personal experience to help others, realizing there are women and men out there going through the same emotions and troubles with worse cases than hers.

Her main focus is to help men and women and their families, conquer this life threatening disease by helping them focus on healing, returning to work and raising their families. The Pink Fund provides short financial aid during treatment and recovery to lift some of the financial burden many of these patients are hit with during these trying times.
